Karen Mahmoudi (Santa Monica, CA)

I studied jewelry design and silversmithing at Indiana University and the Instituto Allende, San Miguel, and have taken many classes over the years.

My jewelry is primarily sterling silver, fine silver, copper and nickel, often combined with stones I’ve collected in my travels all over the world. I like to alter the surface of the metal with a variety of textures such as rolling, corrugation and reticulation and am drawn to problem solving in constructing my pieces with cold connections – screws, staples, stitching, rivets…how will they stay together without soldering.
