TILE ART

Meredith designs and handcrafts contemporary tile art – decorative relief, ceramic art tiles – conceived, drawn, sculpted, molded, rolled, pressed, fired, glazed, and fired again.

Artist Statement: After graduating from the Chicago Art Institute I worked with various art materials, but have remained true to clay for 40 years.  During the early years when I did commercial work, mostly commissions, my mantra was “one project for you and one for me.” After completing a commission I gave myself the time to draw and paint on tile just as I liked, experimenting and perfecting glaze techniques that couldn’t be duplicated.  Today the projects are all for me.  Tile is my canvas.  I often work in relief, in figurative images, and with color, color, color – firing as often as needed until I am happy with the color and look.
